Now Hiring – Human Resources Administrator

Seafood Express (P.E.I.) Ltd. is a premier transportation company based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. We specialize in temperature control shipping between Eastern Canada, the United States East Coast and Central Canada.

The Human Resources (HR) Administrator is a member of the Human Resources and Administration Team. The HR Administrator provides direction, advice, coaching, and support to owners, staff, and drivers in regard to employee relations, employee development, engagement, performance management, training , health and safety, compensation and retention. The HR Administratorprovides leadership in the development and implementation of new HR programs, policies and procedures, guides employees through the immigration process and assists with processing of payroll.

Education and Training:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labour relations, business administration or a related field
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role is an asset
  • Canadian Human Resource Professional (CPHR) Certification would be an asset
  • CPM or PCP designation would be an asset
  • Requires fluency in both speaking and writing English, other languages are an asset

Experience, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Canada Labour Code and regulations, Canada Human Rights Act, Canadian and U.S. laws and regulations as they relate to the Transportation industry (e.g. Hours of Service, Drug Testing Policy)
  • Advanced Microsoft Word and Excel experience required
  • The Human Resources Administrator is an approachable, patient, logical, and diplomatic team player who can share practical knowledge and motivate change
  • The Human Resources Administrator can develop policies and procedures, with a “big picture” view of the Company’s objectives in mind
  • Demonstrated conflict management, facilitation, interpersonal, collaboration and team building skills are essential
  • Experience in the long-haul transportation industry between U.S. and Canada would be an asset

This is a full-time permanent position with benefits. The position is based in Charlottetown, with occasional travel to other provinces or outside Canada. Salary to be negotiated based on qualifications and experience.

Now Hiring – Safety and Compliance Coordinator

Seafood Express (P.E.I.) Ltd. is a premier transportation company based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. We specialize in temperature control shipping between Eastern Canada, the United States East Coast and Central Canada.

As a member of the human resources team, the Safety and Compliance Coordinator plays an important role in the retention and safety of our professional drivers, as well as ensuring our record keeping is compliant. This includes monitoring electronic log books, administering safety programs and acting as the Designated Employer Representative (DER) for the drug and alcohol testing of safety sensitive employees. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for coaching and communication; while adhering to policy and records management requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience working in a Safety & Compliance related role; including proficiency with the use of database management, spreadsheets and report filing
  • A degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Business, transportation or a related field
  • Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. laws and regulations as they relate to the transportation industry (e.g. Hours of Service, Drug Testing Policy, Food Safety)   
  • Requires fluency in both speaking and writing English; other languages are an asset

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to present orientation sessions to teach company policies and procedures
  • Facilitate meetings, conduct workplace investigations and prepare reports and recommendations
  • Requires computer competency in areas including: internet research, logistics software, online training software, Microsoft Word, Excel and email
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • The Safety and Compliance Coordinator must be highly organized and adept at file maintenance and record keeping
  • Ability to set priorities and achieve goals in an environment where spontaneous problem solving and unpredictably is in the nature of the position
  • Experience in training drivers would be an asset

This is a full-time permanent position with benefits. The position is based in Charlottetown, with occasional travel to other provinces.

Salary: $40,000-$55,000 annually based on qualifications and experience.

Now Hiring – Maintenance Technician

As we prepare to move into a brand-new facility with 4 drive through truck-bays, indoor washing bay and on-site fitness center, Seafood Express (P.E.I.) Ltd. is recruiting a Maintenance Technician to join our team! If you have 3-5 years of experience as a technician please apply by email to careers@seafoodexpress.pe.ca

This is a full-time permanent position. Our Technicians can expect to rotate between an early shift and a late shift, finishing between 5-9 pm depending on operational needs. There are also rotating weekends, rotating after hours support phone service and occasional overtime. Travel to off-site and remote locations may be required.

Our Maintenance Technicians troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, perform inspections and routine maintenance, repair and adjust mechanical components, maintain parts inventory and ensure the workplace is a safe and clean environment. You can expect to:  

  • Work with late model power units (2015 and newer)
  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of commercial transport truck systems including chassis, frame, cab, body, engine and drive train, air brakes, steering, and fuel, hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems
  • Inspect motors in operation, perform road tests, or use computerized diagnostic devices to diagnose and isolate faults and determine whether to repair or replace components
  • Clean, lubricate and perform routine maintenance work on equipment such as oil changes, lubrications, tune ups and tire changes
  • Perform incidental welding operations and body work

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Certification as automotive service technician
  • Certification as Transport Trailer Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic would be an asset
  • Driver’s license and access to reliable transportation 

Assets:

  • Working in long-haul transportation environment
  • Red seal endorsement as automotive service technician
  • Knowledge of North American geography
  • Knowledge of inventory control and inventory systems for parts management
  • Experience in the use of Logistics Software
  • Class 1 driver’s license

Iron Apple Certified!

Seafood Express is very excited to say we are now Iron Apple certified! We are now recognized in both Canada and United States as an approved Preventive Controls Plan HACCP based food safety program for transportation and storage. Seafood Express also met all the minimum training requirements for the Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food Regulation requirements. Food Safety and Sanitary Food Handling is at the top of our list when it comes to transporting products between pick up and delivery.

Over the last few months we’ve been working hard at building up our new drivers lounge. Located next door to our main terminal, the newly renovated drivers lounge features 24/7 access for all of our company drivers. Along with free wi-fi, cable TV, the new lounge has a kitchenette equipped with a fridge, microwave and coffee machine, a small gym/workout room, and a full bathroom with a shower.

So whether you are laid over for a night in town, or are waiting for your load paperwork, the drivers lounge is for all our company drivers to relax in a comfortable, safe setting. Enjoy!
